Treasurer

Website Our Streets Now
Back in 2019, two sisters – Gemma and Maya, ages just 15 and 21 – shared with each other how they experienced the world as young women. They spoke about feeling afraid walking home at night. About being harassed in their school uniform. About how their lives were restricted by the fear of public sexual harassment (PSH). And about how this was an everyday reality for millions of women, girls and people of marginalised genders up and down the country.
It led to a movement.
They began a petition to make PSH a criminal offence. Within 100 days, that petition had over 100,000 signatures. It now sits at almost half a million. It caught the attention of local media, then national media, then policymakers at the heart of government. And, in 2023, the five year campaign to make PSH a crime was a success.
Our Streets Now (OSN) is a youth-led, grassroots and intersectional campaign to create a world in which everyone can feel safe and be safe in public space. Our aim is to end public sexual harassment (PSH), the set of sexually intimidating behaviours that 97% of young women have faced.

Our Streets Now is a small organisation with a huge impact. Since launching in 2019, our work has helped shift the national conversation, with the term we coined, ‘Public Sexual Harassment’, now used across government departments. We’ve delivered workshops to over 7,000 students, teachers and professionals, with the vast majority reporting increased confidence to challenge PSH, and been asked by local authorities, sports teams and workplaces to lead on work to make their communities safer. This year we are launching our new strategy, and it is an incredibly exciting moment in our development. The Treasurer will play a key role in guiding our growth and upskilling a passionate community of activists to be confident in financial decision making.
