ABOUT US
Community First Step (CFS) is a not-for-profit organisation based in Fairfield, offering a wide range of services including children’s services, disability services, community development, youth and family case management services, emergency relief services. With a history that spans 50 years, we employ over 80 staff and provide services to over 2000 community members annually.
Our PURPOSE is to empower the Community in South West Sydney to overcome social and economic disadvantage by identifying community need and supporting sustainable capacity building.
Our VISION is that communities in South West Sydney have equal opportunities to thrive in their lives and livelihooods.

OUR BOARD
Our board is comprised of 6 volunteer non-executive directors. We meet monthly on the last Monday of the Month from 6.00pm – 9.00pm at our offices in Fairfield, with every second meeting held online (remotely).
Each Director also serves on one of our committees, which meet for 1 – 2 hours:
- Finance Committee – meets monthly
- Risk Committee – meets bi-monthly
- Remuneration and Nomination Committee – minimum 4 meetings/year
DIRECTOR RECRUITMENT PROCESS
We are currently seeking 1-2 non-executive directors for appointment over the next 2 – 6 months.
First Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate:
- Diverse background
- Living and/or working in Fairfield or South West Sydney
- Technical qualifications or executive management experience in one of the followingDisability, Community or
- Children’s Services; ICT/Cyber Security; Human Resource Management; Fundraising; or Clinical Skills
- Demonstrated teamwork, collaboration, constructive challenge, probing, sound judgement, integrity, interpersonal skills, commitment.
- Willingness to accept assignments and complete them thoroughly and on time.
- Actively participate in Board discussions and decision-making processes.
- Willing to use their networks and connections to promote the purpose and agenda of the organization.
- Understanding of regulatory requirements of NFP organisations
Desirable backgrounds will include:
- Experience in governance
- Governance training eg from the Company Directors Course through AICD or an equivalent program
