Dwell Housing Trust provides affordable, quality housing for people in need or on a low income. We are more than a landlord – we ensure our tenants have access to the support they need and want to live well, do well and be well.

We provide a range of housing services including, social housing for people on the MSD Housing Register, group living for single people experiencing mental illness, general needs affordable rental housing, a shared home ownership programme for first home buyers.

In addition, we manage homes for other organisations, build new homes, have innovative financing solutions to achieve quality social housing, and have successfully completed several new build developments since 2009.

We have the flexibility to provide a range of housing solutions and products, respond effectively to local housing needs, and utilise the goodwill of the wider community.

Position Description

Are you passionate about the provision of affordable, quality housing for people in need? If so, this is an opportunity to take on a rewarding, impactful role as a board member of Dwell Housing Trust, a Wellington-based community housing provider. This is your chance to bring your specialist skills to Dwell, to further strengthen its foundations and be part of creating a long-term housing legacy.

We are seeking potential trustees with any of the following experience and skill sets:

  • Cultural competency/incorporating Te Ao Māori governance principles into decision-making
  • Social housing experience
  • Governance • Finance
  • Legal
  • Strategy
  • Risk Management
  • Property development

All trustees are expected to have strong relevant networks and enjoy networking, plus be part of our fundraising work. Dwell has significant projects underway to provide new quality housing in the Wellington region.

We need trustees who can assist the Board in fulfilling its governance role over these new projects and the ongoing growth of Dwell.

As well as your specialist skills you will have a social heart, be a sound strategic thinker, a strong people person and a great team player. It is desirable that you have a track record as a board member with a good knowledge of governance. The responsibilities and qualities of the Trust board members, are listed in the role profile document. This is an unpaid role.

Dwell is seeking to appoint one new trustee to fill a current vacancy and to allow for continuity when existing long serving trustees conclude their terms. We require a level of cultural competency of our applicants.

Dwell has a minimum of seven board meetings each year including a strategic planning day. Most meetings are held late afternoon in the Wellington CBD.
